It’s Valentine’s day, and you’re going to have a nightmare. Leaving aside the fact the whole idea is rubbish and if you were any kind of partner, you’d express your feelings of loyalty and loveeveryday, not just when the gift card companies dictate, the whole thing is laden with bad, bad cliches.
To help newsletter readers, I’ve ranked all your stupid ideas so you can get ahead of the game, and enjoy a fulfilling, mutually beneficial day.
Bad ideas
Tell your partner how much you love them but end up talking about your feelings for Christian Cullen - understandable, but bad.
Send an Uber Eats with chocolates and flowers home while you’re at Eden Park - come on mate, nothing kills romance like The Blues.
Park by the ocean to take in the view while listening to Radio Sport - you’re better than this.
Risky
Prove your loyalty by showing you’ve unfollowed all the WAGS on Instagram - extremely thin ice.
Surprise your partner with an intimate candlelight experience, roleplaying as her favourite Barrett brother - extreme judgement call.
Treat her with a replay of the 2013 Super Rugby final instead of Blues v Crusaders tonight - huge risk / reward here.
Best idea
Book a sabbatical to Japan or France.
